Saggar Firing

Saggar is a firing process that uses a sacrificial container or “shell” to enclose bisque pieces with combustible materials then they are fired to 1165° F. As the materials burn in a severely reduced oxygen (reduction) atmosphere, they cause natural chemical and colorful reactions.  Different saggars (a larger clay container, aluminum foil, metal cans) and combustible materials (seaweed, copper, salt, banana peels, etc.) produce different result.

Saggar pieces are art and are not food safe or watertight.
